On this site you will find information highlighting mission project initiatives, overviews of the archaeology and history of Mission San Juan Bautista, and related educational resources.
The effort to investigate the archaeology and promote the historic preservation of the Old Mission was initiated in the fall of 1995 by Professor Ruben G. Mendoza and the anthropology students of the California State University, Monterey Bay, and Institute for Archaeology. More recently, Professor Mendoza and his students were recruited by Philip Hudner of the Botto Law Firm of San Francisco for the December of 2005 launch of the SJB Mission Conservation Program effort sponsored by The Louise M. Davies Foundation, The Charles D. & Frances K. Field Fund, and the California Missions Foundation.
This site represents our best efforts to document this most recent initiative to preserve the history of Mission San Juan Bautista.
